Michael Arghyrou is a graduate of the Department of Economics of the Athens University of Economics and Business and holds a Master's and Doctoral Degree (MSc and PhD) in Economics from the University of London (QueenMary). Since July 2019, he has been a Professor of Economics at the Department of Economics of the University of Piraeus. He previously served as Lecturer, Assistant and Associate Professor of Economics at Cardiff University (2005-2019) and Lecturer in Finance at Brunel University (1998-2005). He has extensive research activity in international, European and Greek economics and is internationally recognized as a leading analyst of the European public debt crisis.
