George Gatopoulos holds a BA degree in Economics (Athens University of Economics and Business), a Masters degree in Finance and Economics (London School of Economics) and a PhD in International Finance (University of Geneva). Since 2017, he has been working at the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE), as the Head of the International Macroeconomics and Finance Unit. Prior to IOBE, he worked for seven years as an economist at the International Monetary Fund’s office in Greece. In the context of three economic adjustment programs, overseen by the IMF and the European institutions, he conducted applied economic analysis on a broad set of issues related to the Greek crisis, including on the external and financial sectors and on structural reforms. He has published work in peer-reviewed journals and collective volumes by the IMF, the European Commission, the OECD and IOBE. Since 2017, he has been part-time teaching economics at the American College of Greece.
